Quality Migrant Admission Scheme.

Hi there,

Me and my Boyfriend are trying to move to Hong Kong. I have been offered work but do not have a degree although i grew up in Hong Kong. I didn't live there long enough to get my permantent residency (I lived there for over 6 years) but as i understand it is possible to re-apply for admission into Hong Kong on this merit alone? Does anyone know any details on this matter? My boyfriend has not been offered work as yet but has a degree and has a substantial amount of money in his bank (£100,000). Do you think this would qualify him for the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme? Does anyone know someone that has been accepted into Hong Kong this way and do you know how many points they gained and if it is a better option than him applying for a work permit on his Degree alone?

Please help,

Laurie

6 years residency

I don't think the previous 6 years residency will qualify you for a visa, though if you were born in Hong Kong that could be different. Write to immigration to be sure.

I don't know anyone that has applied for a visa under the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme, so I'll be interested to hear what you find out about it. The government put out a press release last November about their progress, which gives some more details about how the process works.

Good luck, MrB

Quality Migrant Admission Scheme

Don't think a degree plus money will qualify your boyfriend for the QMA scheme. I work in a local university. From time to time, the Immigration dept refers QMA applications to us for assessment. Many of the applicants possess PhD and professional experience in specialist areas and yet these only qualify them for assessment, not for admission.

Economic need

I am the Applicant 000001 under the Quality Mogrant Scheme, and obtained the QM Status in June 2008...

As what i know a bout the scheme..always think about the key" Economic need " and "Contribution to the HK Community" ...the money only can prove you may noty to rely on the social or government assistance..

re: Economic need

CK, congratulations on getting the QM status, and thanks for your good advice above.

Please can I ask which country you come from? One person writing in this Geoexpat thread believed that the scheme was aimed at people from mainland china. Others say that is where the majority of applicants have come from, but that the HK Government is open to applicants from any country.

And how long did the process last from application to approval?

If you can share any other advice / experiences, we'll be very grateful. There doesn't seem to be much information on the web from people who have made a successful application.

Regards, MrB
