I was wondering do I have to pay income tax for AdSense revenue if I move to HK? I know HK only taxes on HK-sourced income, but as you know the AdSense checks are issued from a HK local company called HSBC Payment Limited (Google hires them to print checks), will this makes AdSense revenue to be treated as a HK-sourced income?

Thank you!!!

I'd like to know the same

I'd like to know the same thing. I made a post in another article yesterday that when like this:

I run a few websites on which I sell advertising via the Google AdSense program. Does anyone know how this would be taxed in Hong Kong? As in is this considered foreign income?

And if I was to continue to develop and maintain my websites whilst in Hong Kong would this constitute working in Hong Kong and require a working visa?

Also how hard would it be to obtain residence in HK if you are young (23), Australian, self employeed, have an unrelated degree, don't speak any language other than English, with only about $500,000HKD in equity?

re: Adsense in HK

Chris, if you want to stay in HK longer than a tourist visa lasts, you'll want a working visa of some type. Options 5 or 8 described here could be suitable.

Hi MrB, could you please tell

Hi MrB, could you please tell us do we need to pay tax for those adsense income? I ask this is because you are based in HK and running a site has adsense ads, I found it's really hard to find anyone in the same situation.

re: Adsense & tax

Hi Michael, sorry - I haven't answered because I am not sure. This is just a hobby site, so it doesn't make enough money from Adsense that I've ever thought about taxes. It basically pays for the hosting service and a couple of lunches with Mr Tall each month. Certainly not enough to live on!

Why not write to the Inland Revenue if you want to be sure? Please let us know what you find out.

Thank you for your reply!

Thank you for your reply! I'll ask the inland revenue. :)
