How can I find a Mandarin tutor with experience?

Re:seeking Mandarin tutor...

You'll probably want to give several a test-run to see if you like their teaching style. Some years back we were trying out new teachers, and one man brought along X-rays of people's mouths pronouncing different sounds ! I remember we spent around 15 minutes on one sound. He was also on a mission to convince us that simplified characters were way better than traditional characters (one of our group wanted to learn to write as well as speak). One lesson with him was more than enough.

HK Magazine lists several tutors in their classified section. You might also consider going along to some of the schools if they let you try one class. If you like the teacher, you can approach them quietly after the class and ask if they would like to give private tuition.

Thank you very much

Thanks mrb,

Where can I get the HK Magazine?
By the way, how can I know whether he/she is a good teacher?
Since you'll believe everything they told you during the lesson!

It's widely available :

You'll have to use your own judgement, but it's a good sign if they spend some time asking what your goals for the lessons are, and that they can communicate clearly in your native language. Alternatively, you could join a group class first, which will be cheaper, and let you get a feel for what is good and bad in language teaching.

Good luck, MrB

My teacher

I think the teacher who teach me Mandarin now is quite good but she's still in University so I dont know whether she's going to have more students.
She start teaching a few years ago but I dont know how many students she's having now.
Tell me if you are interested so I can contact her immediately.

Thanks Zeta

How much does he/she charge and can you give me his/ her contact method?

Re:seeking Mandarin tutor...

she charge me 150/hr
and her email address is

yes I think you should listen to mrb since I have a Mandarin teacher before and he taught badly, it's not about his knowledge of Mandarin but is his style of teaching, he came late every time and just simply ask me to follow what he just speak without letting me know the meaning and how to use the words...

Thanks Zeta

I think the teacher is good! Thank you very much!
