What's missing from the Hong Kong job market?

A quick glance at the immigration website says that in order to get a working visa, you (or your employer) have to prove that you have a talent or something which is not readily available in Hong Kong. My first response to this was "Such as?" With the stereotypical Chinese being a very high achiever, is there much left, other than TEFL, for a foreigner to be a specialist in? Sorry, I don't mean for this post to come off as a rant, but there don't seem to be many answers to this question on the web. Thanks! :)

Marrying in a church despite not being religious

I'm doing a research project on marriages in Hong Kong, and how they have evolved from the traditional chinese wedding. One of the topics is the wedding venues. Churches are quite a popular choice for the wedding ceremony, even if the couple are not religious, and I'd like get some responses on some reasons why people still do opt for a church ceremony.

If you yourself have done the church wedding ceremony, a reply would be really helpful, as well as how else you did your wedding. Thank you very much. :)

Career Prospects

Hi, I am currently resident and employed in India. I am working in the financial industry for the past 5 years and trying to find good opportunities in Hongkong from a long term career perspective. What are the required skill sets that are in vogue in HK and cannot be satieted with the local talent available? Will it give me an edge in applying through the only source of job sites and getting in touch with the employers based there?

Want to relocate to Hong Kong

Hi,

I'm getting ready to retire at the end of the year and my wife and I would like to move from the San Francisco Bay Area to Hong Kong. My wife has lived in the US for the majority of her life. But still has possession of her original HK ID card. What will it take for her and I to be able to move to HK? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Returning to HK to work as part time visitor

I am a UK citizen who lived & worked in HK for 3 years to mid 2010. I was sponsored by a large HK company for the visa, and was an employee. I had had a permanent resident's card for the duration

Prior to that I made many business trips to HK for a multi-national, as a visitor. Some of these were several weeks duration.

I have been offered some fixed time consultancy work in HK in 2012 - probably just a month or two. I would intend bill for this work through my consultancy company in UK i.e. it would be a company to company contract agreement

Question arising:

Could do this work just as a business visitor (i.e. no work visa)? In this case what limits would apply to visits?

Or can I use the engaging company to sponsor me and arrange for a visa. I would not be an employee though

Your thoughts & comments appreciated
