My favourite spot in Hong Kong has to be Big Wave Bay at the northeastern end of the Sai Kung peninsula. There are a bunch of ways to get there, but we usually start by catching a taxi from Sai Kung to Sai Wan Ting. The ride can be a bit hairy, as the last section is a winding single-track road, but when you start walking, you'll be rewarded with views across the High Island Reservoir.

Swimming is Dangerous!

The waves aren't quite as dramtic as the warning signs make out, but they can be relatively large for Hong Kong, so you'll want to be a confident swimmer. Watch out for the undertow, too, especially at either end of the beach.

At the bottom of the hill you'll probably see fish in the small river. One of the villagers was setting up a fishing net the day we passed by.

After passing through the village, you'll come to a beach. Don't be tempted to stop here, though, as there is much better to come.

There's a longer climb up, but shortly after cresting the hill, you'll see the beach we're headed to.

When it's time to head home, we prefer to continue along the Maclehose Trail, instead of backtracking.
