Carseats, taxis and paranoid fathers

The Mini bus story got me thinking about transporting kids around town. If you take a taxi and a have a carseat, what do you do with it? Does anyone have carseat experiences In Hong Kong? Does anyone own carseats in Hong Kong? In the US they are required for all children under 7 (I think). Does HK have any of these restrictions? Are there many vehicle accidents with serious injuries in Hong Kong? I have had a few hair raising Taxi rides in the hills on HK but I haven't heard of anyone getting into major accidents.

Re:Carseats, taxis and paranoid fathers

I've never seen a child's car seat used in a taxi - it's certainly not a legal requirement. Up until about 12 months old we'd have our daughter in a carrier strapped to me, and I'd have a seatbelt on. Since then she just sits in our arms.

Taxi rides around town can be a bit hairy, but I don't remember seeing anything worse than a dented fender.

MrB

same as Mr. B

I have 2 kids, 8 and 6. When they were babies I did as Mr. B does. Once they got to about 3 or 4 I strapped them in the middle seat waist belt in taxis.

In our own car, we used a car seat until they were about 3 or 4 and then had them use regular seat belts.
