Hk losing its hold on democracy as a special Chinese Zone?

All pan-democratic lawmakers have resigned en masse from a Legislative Council committee examining a bill to scrap by-elections in geographical constituencies and the five new district council-sector functional constituency seats. [reported recently in

the HK Standard]

The government of HK is being accused of trying to ram through the legislation, not consulting with the people of HK and depriving people of the right to vote.

Is the HK govt now confident that it essentially has the backing of China and can move away from any vestige of democracy that once existed?
